First established in the 1870s, the course hosted the 1893 New Zealand Championship. Originally called the Christchurch Golf Club, Hagley gave starts to both Shirley and Russley Golf Clubs. Hagley maintained it’s independence through some tough times in the early days.
Nowadays the course is an integral part of Hagley Park but maintains it’s independence by operating and maintaining the course with no financial help from the City Council. The Club is proud of the manner in which it maintains the section of Hagley Park that it looks after and has and will continue to allocate it’s resources to the betterment of the course and greater park.
The club runs formal competitions on Saturdays and Wednesdays. These are open to all members, both male and female, with tee times ranging from 8.30am in the summer to 9.30am in the winter.
The Hagley Open is held late October each year. The format is 2 x 12 holes and is open to both Ladies and Men. In the past the tournament has proven popular and players are urged to make sure that you book your place early.
The course also hosts a number of corporate tournaments throughout the year. If you are interested in running a tournament at Hagley Golf Course then please contact us.
