The Hagley Golf Club will host a celebration of 150 years of golf on Hagley Park this November 3rd – 5th
This November, members past and present of the Hagley Golf Club will celebrate 150 years of golf being played on Hagley Park, making this the oldest golf course in Christchurch.
The first recorded mention of the establishment of a club at Hagley Park was printed in ‘The Star’ on September 4th 1872. Play has continued at Hagley continuously over that time, with several other local golf clubs being developed by members from the ‘original’ Hagley course.
The celebrations are planned for the weekend of November 3rd – 5th and will be hosted at the Hagley Golf Club. All past and present members of the club are welcome to register for the events over the weekend. The festivities will include a Par 3 tournament of Friday afternoon, with the main event being the ‘Sesquicentennial 12-hole medal round’ on Saturday followed by a gala dinner at DOUBLE TREE FORMERLY KNOWN AS CHATEAU ON THE PARK , and conclude on Sunday with a commemorative plaque being blessed, a ‘Devonshire Tea’ followed by a relaxed 4 Ball Best Ball tournament.
Hagley would be considered one of the more inclusive, relaxed, and social clubs in the region, where members of all abilities, ages and genders gather on the Saturday club day and embrace the open draw and ‘shot gun start’. This very successful process means you do not know who will be in your four prior to the game, and with all players finishing at similar times, all members can then socialise together.
The Sesquicentennial celebrations will only reinforce this community and fun-loving attitude of the members as the club will welcome current players, and those past members who can no longer ‘swing a club’ back to reminisce on the great times spent at the club.

The weekend will include:
A Par 3 casual golf game and get together on Friday afternoon 3rd, a 12 hole ‘Sesquicentennial medal round’ on Saturday 4th, followed by a gala dinner that evening and conclude on Sunday 5th with some morning formalities and followed by a casual 4 BBB Ambrose 12-hole tournament.
Registrations for the weekend are open to current and past members of the Hagley Golf Club. Registrations close on July 31st 2023, with a 50% payment based on the events being attended, with full and final payment no later that September 30th 2023.
Event costs are:
- Registration fee (one off fee irrespective of number of events attended) $10:00pp
- Friday afternoon - Par 3 (social game) $10:00pp
- Saturday - ‘Sesquicentennial 12-hole Medal Round’ $20:00pp
- Saturday - Evening gala dinner (fee does not include drinks) $85:00pp
- Sunday - Devonshire Tea $15:00pp
- Sunday – 12-hole 4BBB $ 5:00pp
